ComFAR joined SOS and the Ministry of Women Affairs to celebrate International Day of the Girl Child. The celebrations took place at Chakonda in Shamva.

The event was attended by students from local schools namely Bradley Institute, Jiti High School and Gono Secondary School.

Inline with the 2018 theme  “With Her: A Skilled Girl Force”, the event provided a platform for girls to showcase their various skills. The girls proved that when given equal opportunities, they can transform their lives and communities. The most noticeable performances of the day included a girl Drum Major orchestrating a Brass Band, an impressive speech from (a girl) Junior MP, the dramatization of adverse effects of child marriages and recitation of poems.

In addition, representatives from various organizations motivated and encouraged girls to stay in school and utilise the knowledge they will acquire to transform their communities.
